Akitarou Daichi has directed his share
of romance series such “Fruits Basket”, “Kodocha” and “Bokura ga Ita”. One romance that
stands out to me is the anime “Kamisama Hajimemashita”. It’s not just pure
romance and two beings falling in love. In the first episode you have to endure
the hardship the main character goes through and really find out how hard life
is for her. The series is full of energy and there’s something different around
every corner. It perfectly balanced the relationship between the two characters
and never drags the story. The jokes are never outdone and are always timed
perfectly. Rather than the characters falling in love right away, they have to
work for their relationship and really overcome some personal hardship.
One think I adore about our main character
Nanami Momozono is how she is so incredibly hard working, when she wants
something she goes after it and somehow always proves her worth. She’s stubborn
and can be over dramatic especially when it comes to her familiar Tomoe. Tomoe
can be insensitive, strong headed, and has an almost mocking demeanor. Together
they are almost complete opposites and that makes them the pride of this anime.
This isn’t an anime where you have to think
hard about the story line. It’s very basic with simple characters. Although the
episodes and characters aren’t as eccentric and broad as other romance series,
its’ simplicity makes it enjoyable because it is never overdone. This anime is
short, sweet, and to the point but also exceeded my expectations for it. Not
many short series are able to be so simple and as well put together as this
one.
The only recommendation I would have is that
the character development could have been better. As much as I enjoyed the
characters and their perfectly timed humor, I would have loved to see them grow
a bit more and have more added to them as the series went on.
This series is also available in Manga at
your local Books A Million or can be found on Amazon with the DVD package to
the first season.
Seleção out!
